Wreck Beach Preservation Society - The Wreck Beach Preservation Society (WBPS) has been dedicated to preserving the foreshore and cliffs of Wreck Beach in as nearly a natural state as possible since 1974. We put out a seasonal newsletter now in its 27th year, Issue 64, to update folks on the latest developments to do with Wreck Beach people and issues of concern regarding the beach. We have stopped an RCMP road to and along the beach in 1985, stopped the barging of a million gallons of jet fuel past Wreck Beach weekly, and reduced the height and locations of four univeristy towers that would have stared directly down at Wreck Beach. We lobby all levels of government to keep our beach development free and as natural as possible. In June 2007, Canada's national broadcasting corporation, the CBC, listed Wreck Beach as being one of the top 52 Wonders of Canada out of a total of 25, 000 nominations! The contest was billed as the Seven Wonders of Canada contest. Our beach is the longest clothing optional beach in North America, extending 7.8 km. from the Acadia section to Booming Ground Creek. Seven major trails provide beach access, with the one closest to the city being wheelchair accessible. We generate over $65-million in tourist revenue annually from our half a million visitors to this spiritual and special retreat for the tourist interested in nude recreation.
